America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3
The cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model, which is also one of the highest rated seasons in the history of the show, premiered on 22nd September, 2004. The promotional catch - phrase for this cycle was “Beauty In Progress.” It was in this cycle that a partnership with the famous cosmetics brand CoverGirl began and which continues till date. The judges for this cycle were Tyra Banks, Nigel Barker, Janice Dickinson and Nolé Marin who replaced Eric Nicholson in this season.
The number of contestants this season was increased to 14 and Tokyo, Japan was picked up as the international location. The prize bag consisted of a U.S. $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, a fashion spread in ELLE magazine and a contract for representation by Ford Models.
Eva Pigford, 19, from Los Angeles, California won the title. Thus she became the first African American winner of the show. Also, she is the shortest ever winner of the America’s Next Top Model, and will always remain so because the next cycle saw an increase in the height criteria. Another distinction achieved by Eva is that she has appeared in a record number of episodes of this show, twenty episodes to be precise, including four specials. Twenty one year old Camara “Yaya” Da Costa, from Harlem, New York was the runner up in this cycle. The complete list of contestants in the order of their elimination has been mentioned here.
